1. Thursday 24 June at 6.30pm
'Of Monks and Viewing Mounds : The History and Archaeology of Lytham Mall begins to unfold'
by Nigel Neil Nigel

Neil is the site archaeologist appointed by the Trust with Lottery funding to undertake evaluations as part of the Heritage Lottery Bid. Working with a team of volunteers he has supervised a number of trial digs on the south side of the Hall including the Mount and the site of the Ice House.

He has considerable experience of monastic sites, and he has been involved in Building Surveys of vernacular and gentry houses and gardens. Nigel set up his solo consultancy in 1994, having worked as a Field Officer for the Lancaster University Archaeological Unit.

2. Thursday 22 July at 6.30pm
'The Development of the Clifton Gardens at Lytham Hall'

Ruth Thurnhill was formerly a science teacher. She took a part-time degree module in Garden and Landscape Studies at Manchester University specialising in the upsurge of conifer planting by the Victorians. A postgraduate degree was followed by a Masters at Lancaster University. Both degrees concentrated on the designed historic landscape elements of the course.

Recently she helped form the Lancashire Gardens Trust and is currently working with Manchester Metropolitan University and the Lancashire County Council in researching and recording the A to D category gardens in Lancashire.

3a/b. Thursday 26 August Two Practical Courses
'Historic Decorative Crafts' and 'Gilding, Graining and Marbling'

Nigel Leaney is a Craftsman and Lecturer. His specialist subject: conservation and restoration of gilded and painted objects and traditional materials. He has conducted research into original historical colour schemes, especially those used in John Carr's interiors. Nigel is hosting two practical sessions and demonstrations.
Sessions: The course commences with Historic Decorative Crafts at 10am (please arrive at 9.30am) until 12.30pm. Lunch is from 12.30pm - 1.30pm. The afternoon session is on Graining and Marbling and finishes at 3.30pm.
Materials: Please bring a 4" square of clear Perspex or toughened glass, some rags and artists' brushes up to 1" size. Other materials will be supplied by the tutor.

4. Thursday 26 August 6.30pm
'John Carr an Architect for Everyman' and 'John Carr as a Decorative Designer'
by Dr Ivan Hall

Dr Hall has studied the architect and craftsmanship of John Carr all his life. He was a Lecturer for the WEA before becoming a Senior Lecturer in the History of Art and Architecture at Hull University. He finally became an Historic Buildings Officer for the Greater London Council and the London Region of English Heritage, especially for the City of London and the Borough of Camden. He has written and lectured extensively and was a principal contributor to the Victoria County History of York. Dr Hall has written books on architecture, furniture history and landscape gardening and is currently a visiting lecturer for the RICS course on building conservation.

5. Thursday 21 October at 6.30pm
'Lytham Hall and John Carr's Other Houses West of the Pennines'

A former Conservation Officer for Lancashire County Council, John has a deep knowledge of the Country's finest buildings. He considers Lytham Hall 'the finest Georgian house in Lancashire'. He has just completed a new book entitled 'Country Houses in Lancashire and their Builders' which is scheduled for publication by Lancaster University's Centre of North West Regional Studies in March 2011.

6. Thursday 18 November at 6.30pm
'Furniture of the North West'
by Susan Bourne

Susan Bourne has recently retired as Curator at Towneley Hail, in Burnley. She is an acknowledged expert on English Furniture and a Founder Member of the Regional Furniture Society.
